Atrium Trip

Recently, we went on a trip to the ATRiuM University in Cardiff. There we met two lecturers who taught Film Studies and Film and Video. They gave us an insight into how the codes and conventions of a thriller make it a thriller and what techniques some Directors use like music, lighting or body language.

Then, we were given film equipment, a short plot sequence and a time limit to film it in - but without the opportunity to edit it together. Having to do each shot in order was hard but we overcome it, as well as trying to get each shot perfect in one take. Finally, we finished and the outcome was really successful.

I really enjoyed the trip and took a lot out of it. I learnt that practicing shots first is very important and learnt how to work without the basic thing of being able to edit. Visiting the ATRiuM and meeting the two lecturers made me decide that Film is what I would like to do in University.
